Crossville, AL – Fatal Accident on Alabama Highway 75

Crossville, AL (October 18, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the death of a Crossville man and injuries to five others, including two children. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) reported that the incident took place at approximately 2:55 p.m. on Alabama Highway 75 near DeKalb County 24.

According to ALEA, Tommy W. Gortney, 51, was driving a Kia Optima when his vehicle was struck by a Honda CR-V. The impact caused the Kia to collide with two other vehicles, a Chevrolet Tahoe and a second Honda CR-V. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, where Gortney was pronounced dead.

A passenger in Gortney’s vehicle was transported to Huntsville Hospital for medical treatment. Additionally, the drivers of both the Chevrolet Tahoe and the second Honda CR-V were taken to Marshall Medical Center for care. Tragically, two children, ages 5 and 1, who were in the Tahoe, also sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.
