Enfield, CT – Fatal Crash on I-91 Southbound

Enfield, CT (October 19, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Friday afternoon on Interstate 91 southbound, resulting in the death of an 88-year-old man. The crash led to the closure of the highway as emergency responders attended to the scene.

Authorities have identified the deceased as William Higgins, who was driving on Route 5 at the time of the incident. Reports indicate that Higgins attempted to enter I-91 South through a wooded grassy area, where he collided with a truck already on the highway. Both men involved in the crash were transported to Hartford Hospital for medical treatment.

Unfortunately, William Higgins was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, while the other driver, 48-year-old Christopher Clifford Jr. Wilcox, sustained minor injuries and was treated accordingly. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
