Macon, GA – Tragic Incident Involving Child on Riverside Drive

Macon, GA (October 14, 2024) – A heartbreaking incident occurred early Monday morning when a young boy was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Riverside Drive. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office reported that the call was made to the E-911 Center at approximately 3:58 AM.

According to the press release, deputies were initially responding to a missing person report involving a 3-year-old boy from a hotel located in the 3900 block of Riverside Drive. Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones indicated that it appears the child had left a room at the Suburban Lodge without his parents’ knowledge, which is situated near Northcrest Drive.

Tragically, investigators later found the missing child unresponsive after he had been hit by a car that fled the scene. The sheriff’s office is actively searching for the individual responsible for the incident. Deputy Coroner Richard Robinson pronounced the child dead at the scene.

The victim’s next of kin has been notified, and the body will be sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy. The circumstances surrounding the boy’s death are currently under investigation.
