Detroit, MI – Fatal Pedestrian Accident on W I-96 near MLK Blvd

Detroit, MI (August 2, 2024) – A fatal accident occurred on Thursday, August 1, at 7:30 AM on W I-96 near MLK Blvd. The Detroit Regional Communication Center received a call about a pedestrian on the freeway.

Troopers were dispatched, but before their arrival, another caller reported that a car had struck the pedestrian. Witnesses stated the woman had jumped from the overpass into the right lane and was hit by a Ford van. The van’s driver stopped and is cooperating with the investigation.

The 39-year-old Detroit woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash and are expected to provide updates as more information becomes available.
