
Indianapolis, IN (August 12, 2024) – Early Sunday morning, a fire in a duplex on East 19th Street tragically resulted in the death of a 66-year-old woman and displaced a family of four. The Indianapolis Fire Department was alerted to the fire around 4:10 a.m. by passersby who noticed flames in the building’s window.
Despite immediate assistance from bystanders who attempted to alert occupants, the fire quickly escalated. Firefighters discovered the woman deceased inside the home. The adjacent unit suffered significant smoke damage, leading to the displacement of another family and their dog. The Red Cross is providing support to those affected. The investigation into the cause of the fire and subsequent fatality is ongoing, with further updates expected.
