Southside, AL – Former Police Chief Killed in Two-Vehicle Accident at Hwy 77 and Pilgrims Rest Rd

Southside, AL (August 14, 2024) – A former Alabama police chief, Jeffrey Harwood, 71, was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Monday morning, August 12. The crash occurred shortly before 11 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 77 and Pilgrims Rest Rd. Harwood was rushed to Riverview Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The other driver involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and was also hospitalized. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is leading the investigation into the incident.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash and are expected to provide updates as more information becomes available.
