Cullman, AL (August 26, 2024) – A tragic two-car crash on I-65 at the 293-mile marker claimed the life of 21-year-old Mirra Bride Dot Popee Chafin. The incident occurred when Chafin’s Ford Mustang veered off, struck a ditch, and flipped over. Chafin died at the scene. Her passenger, Lara A. Phillips, 23, also suffered injuries and was airlifted to UAB Hospital for urgent care.
Both victims were ejected from the Mustang as they were not wearing seatbelts. After the initial crash, the unoccupied Mustang re-entered the highway and struck a 2014 Toyota Sienna. Suzanne E. Woods, 56, the Toyota’s driver, sustained injuries and was also transported to UAB Hospital.
Authorities are investigating and expect to provide updates as more details emerge.
