Portal, GA – Fatal Pedestrian Crash on GA-26

Portal, GA (August 29, 2024) – A 16-year-old male student from Portal Middle High School died Wednesday night after being hit by a car on Georgia Highway 26, also U.S. Highway 80. The accident occurred around 9:44 p.m. near North Grady Street. According to the Georgia State Patrol, a black Honda Accord traveling east struck the pedestrian, who was walking partially in the eastbound lane.

The victim, who would have turned 17 in a few days, was first taken to East Georgia Regional Medical Center and later flown to Memorial Health University Medical Center, where he passed away. The driver, a mother with two children, attempted to assist the victim. The investigation is ongoing.
