Mitchell County, GA – Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident on Mt. Olive Rd

Mitchell County, GA (September 22, 2024) – A tragic hit-and-run incident occurred on Friday night just outside of Pelham, resulting in the death of an 88-year-old man. The Mitchell County 911 center received a call around 7 p.m. regarding the incident, prompting a response from local authorities.

According to Mitchell County Coroner Jamey Thompson, the victim, identified as Amos Anderson, was struck by a vehicle while picking up debris near his home on Mt. Olive Road. When Anderson did not return inside, his wife went outside and discovered him injured. Despite the prompt response from emergency services, Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff W.E. Bozeman reported that authorities are actively working to locate the vehicle and the driver involved in this tragic incident. The investigation is being conducted by the Mitchell County Coroner’s Office, the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, and the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
