Houston, TX (October 1, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred Sunday morning, September 29, when a woman was found dead inside an apartment following reports of a fire. The incident took place at an apartment complex on Truxillo Street, near Texas Southern University in Houston’s Third Ward.

According to Houston Fire Department (HFD) Deputy Chief J. Pennington, firefighters responded to the scene around 11:56 a.m. after receiving reports of a possible fire with individuals trapped inside. Upon arrival, the firefighters did not observe any visible signs of fire or smoke from the exterior of the building. However, upon entering the apartment, they discovered soot and smoke, indicating that the fire had already been extinguished.

Tragically, a woman was located inside the apartment and was pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, no one else was found in the apartment at the time. Deputy Chief Pennington noted that the smoke detectors were operational and had been sounding during the incident.
