Preliminary reports indicate that a Nissan Altima driver lost control while traveling north on the highway. The vehicle struck the median barrier wall and came to a stop facing south. In an attempt to turn around, the driver of the Nissan proceeded south in the toll lane when she collided with a northbound motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist, identified as 61-year-old Arthur Beland Jr. of Yadkinville, was involved in a subsequent collision with another northbound vehicle after the initial impact. Tragically, Beland was thrown from his motorcycle and died at the scene.
