Girard, LA – Motorcycle Accident at U.S. Hwy 80 and LA Hwy 133 causes Injuries

Girard, LA (October 9, 2024) – A tragic motorcycle accident occurred on Monday morning, October 7 resulting in the death of a 42-year-old motorcyclist. At approximately 9:00 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F began their investigation into a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Hwy 80 and LA Hwy 133.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 2016 Peterbilt truck, towing a grain trailer and driven by 57-year-old Curtis Brown, was traveling eastbound on U.S. Hwy 80. Simultaneously, a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, operated by Lonnie McIlvoy of Gilbert, was traveling westbound on the same highway. For reasons that are still under investigation, the Peterbilt made a left turn in an attempt to enter LA Hwy 133. This maneuver placed the truck directly in the path of the motorcycle, leading to a devastating collision.

McIlvoy, who was wearing a non-DOT-approved helmet at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Peterbilt, Brown, was properly restrained and reported no injuries from the incident. While impairment is not suspected in this case, standard toxicology samples were collected and will undergo analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
