Tempe, AZ (October 16, 2024) – A tragic motorcycle accident occurred on the Loop 202 in Tempe on Tuesday, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist. The crash took place in the left HOV lanes near McClintock Drive, leading to a brief full closure of the westbound lanes just west of the Loop 101.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), the collision involved a motorcycle and an SUV. First responders pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.

Following the incident, two lanes were quickly reopened; however, four lanes remained blocked off with cones at the McClintock Drive exit during the busy rush hour. As of 5:45 p.m., investigators continued to keep the HOV lane and left lane closed to process evidence from the scene.
