New Haven, CT – Bicyclist Struck and Killed by Garbage Truck on Church St

New Haven, CT (October 17, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred early Wednesday morning when a bicyclist was struck and killed by a garbage truck in New Haven. The accident took place around 2 a.m. in the vicinity of Church Street and North Frontage Road.

According to police reports, the victim has been identified as a 24-year-old man from New Haven. The garbage truck was stopped in front of Gateway Community College at the time of the incident, and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Evidence markers were placed around the truck to assist in the inquiry.

Investigators believe that the bicyclist entered the roadway from the sidewalk just before being struck by the garbage truck. Following the collision, the victim was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation into the incident led to the temporary closure of the Martin Luther King Boulevard off-ramps from Interstates 91 and 95. The area was reopened shortly before 7:30 a.m., allowing traffic to resume.
