Maricopa County, AZ – Fatal Crash on I-10 South of Phoenix

Maricopa County, AZ (October 17, 2024) – A tragic multi-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 10 south of Phoenix on October 16, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The accident took place just after noon at milepost 169, approximately two miles south of Riggs Road. According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), traffic was moving slowly in the westbound lanes when a box truck failed to slow down and collided with a pickup truck and three other vehicles.

The impact of the collision pushed both the box truck and the pickup truck into the median, where they subsequently caught fire. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released. Additionally, two other drivers involved in the crash sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated accordingly.

The crash led to significant traffic disruptions, resulting in the closure of I-10 in both directions between Riggs and Casa Blanca Roads for some time. Fortunately, the roadway has since reopened, allowing traffic to resume.
