Bazetta Township, OH (October 18, 2024) – A tragic six-vehicle crash occurred Thursday afternoon on State Route 5, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to at least two others. The incident took place just after 12:30 p.m. in Bazetta Township.

Nicholas Stoian, a 38-year-old resident of Cortland, was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the accident began when a teen driver operating a 2021 Audi A7 was traveling southwest on SR 5 and approached a red light at the intersection with SR 305.

Reports indicate that the teen driver collided with the rear of Stoian’s 2015 Ford Escape, which was stopped in traffic at the light. This impact caused Stoian’s vehicle to be pushed into the car in front of it, resulting in a chain reaction that involved a total of six vehicles. Eyewitness accounts described a chaotic scene, with one vehicle being pushed almost entirely under the car in front of it, causing the front vehicle to flip up.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash. Initial findings suggest that distracted driving may have contributed to the incident.
