October 20, 2024

Sullivan, NH (October 19, 2024) – A New Hampshire State Trooper escaped serious injuries in a rollover accident involving her cruiser while pursuing a vehicle late Thursday night, October 17. The incident occurred on October 17, 2024, at approximately 1 a.m.

The Keene Police Department had received multiple complaints about a vehicle being driven recklessly. Trooper Margaret Carey spotted the reported vehicle traveling westbound on Route 9 in Sullivan at a high rate of speed. In an effort to apprehend the driver, Trooper Carey activated her emergency lights and siren and turned around to catch up to the vehicle.

As Trooper Carey attempted to negotiate a curve just west of Centre Street, she lost control of her cruiser, which subsequently rolled over. Fortunately, Trooper Carey sustained only minor injuries and was able to exit the cruiser independently. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.

The vehicle that Trooper Carey was pursuing was later located by officers in Keene. When the officers attempted to stop the driver, a pursuit ensued as the driver refused to comply. The pursuit ended when the vehicle was found crashed in Keene, leading to the driver’s arrest by Keene officers.

Our thoughts are with Trooper Carey, and we commend her for her service and dedication.
