St. Charles, MO (October 21, 2024) – A multi-vehicle collision took place on Eastbound Interstate 70, just east of Cave Springs, at approximately 3:27 PM. The incident prompted a response from local law enforcement and emergency services.

According to preliminary reports, the accident involved three vehicles: a 2003 White Lexus RX, a 2016 Silver Hyundai Elantra, and a 2017 Toyota Corolla. The Lexus, driven by 32-year-old Stephanie Shumpert from Columbia, MO, was traveling in lane one when it encountered a vehicle that had stopped partially in the lane due to a flat tire. In an attempt to avoid a collision, Shumpert slowed down, which led to a chain reaction.

The driver of the Hyundai Elantra, 19-year-old Tylor Carrol from O’Fallon, MO, was traveling in lane two. As the situation unfolded, Carrol changed lanes into lane one, applying his brakes to avoid striking Shumpert’s Lexus. However, the front of the Corolla, driven by 23-year-old Paige Crum from Columbia, MO, struck the rear of Carrol’s Hyundai. Subsequently, Carrol’s Hyundai collided with the rear of Shumpert’s Lexus, resulting in moderate damage to the Hyundai and minor damage to both the Lexus and the Corolla.

Emergency responders transported Shumpert to Barnes Jewish Hospital in Saint Peters for evaluation due to injuries sustained in the crash. Fortunately, the other drivers involved reported no injuries and were able to drive their vehicles from the scene.
