Brunswick, GA – Bicycle Accident with Fatality on US-17

Brunswick, GA (October 8, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on the afternoon of October 6, 2024, involving a bicycle and a truck on US-17. According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), both the truck and the bicycle were traveling northbound in the right lane when the front of the truck struck the bicycle. The bicyclist, identified as Amanda Jorgensen from Brunswick, sadly died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, Isrrael Alonzo Garcia, also from Brunswick, fled the scene but was later located by authorities. Following the incident, Garcia was charged with several offenses, including Vehicular Homicide (1st degree), DUI, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident, among other traffic-related charges.

The GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident.
