Denham Springs, LA – Motorcyclist Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash on LA 447

Denham Springs, LA (September 16, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred shortly after 4:00 PM on September 15, 2024, involving three vehicles on LA 447 at Parkway Drive in Livingston Parish. The crash claimed the life of 58-year-old Michael McManus, a resident of Denham Springs.

According to the preliminary investigation conducted by Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A, McManus was riding a 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on LA 447 behind a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban. As the Chevrolet approached Parkway Drive, it came to a stop with its left turn signal activated, preparing to make a left turn. For reasons still under investigation, McManus failed to stop in time and collided with the rear of the Chevrolet.

The impact ejected McManus from his motorcycle, and he landed in the southbound lane of LA 447, where he was subsequently struck by a 2017 Honda Accord. Tragically, McManus was not wearing a DOT-approved helmet at the time of the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities suspect impairment may have played a role in the crash, and a toxicology sample will be taken from McManus for analysis. The drivers of both the Chevrolet and the Honda were properly restrained and reported no injuries. Impairment is not suspected for either of those drivers, who voluntarily submitted to chemical breath tests.

The Louisiana State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this fatal accident.
