Hillsborough County, FL (October 21, 2024) – A tragic motorcycle accident occurred on Gandy Bridge late Saturday night, resulting in the death of a 23-year-old motorcyclist from Pinellas Park. The incident took place around 10:30 p.m. when the motorcyclist was reportedly speeding westbound on the bridge.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) news release, the motorcyclist attempted to overtake and collided with the rear of an SUV driven by a 41-year-old man from Orlando, who was also traveling west. The impact caused the SUV to come to a stop in the travel lanes, while the motorcycle struck the outside barrier wall, leading to a fire that engulfed the vehicle.

The force of the collision threw the motorcyclist into Tampa Bay, where his body was later recovered by Tampa police divers. The driver of the SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
