Kansas City, KS – Vehicle Crash on Interstate 70 Results in Serious Injuries

Kansas City, KS (October 18, 2024) – A serious accident occurred early Friday morning on Interstate 70 in Wyandotte County, leading to significant injuries for the driver. The crash was reported at approximately 5:15 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of I-70, about a mile east of the Interstate 635 interchange.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2016 Nissan Altima, driven by 20-year-old Stephanie Ontiveros of Independence, MO, drifted onto the right shoulder of the highway. The vehicle side-swiped a metal guardrail and subsequently over-corrected to the left, crossing all four lanes of traffic before colliding with a barrier wall.

Emergency responders transported Ontiveros to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, KS, where she is receiving treatment for serious injuries. Reports indicate that she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. A passenger in the vehicle, 19-year-old Marianna Torres, was reported uninjured, although she also was not wearing a seat belt.
