Lafayette, LA (August 3, 2024) – A Lafayette motorcycle officer is recovering after being injured in a hit-and-run at the I-49 entrance ramp from Gloria Switch Rd. The officer was blocking traffic during an escort when a pickup truck, driven by Chelsea Meaux, 34, of Breaux Bridge, rear-ended his motorcycle and fled the scene.
Fellow officers immediately rushed the injured officer to the hospital. State troopers later arrested Meaux for driving drunk. Authorities will continue to investigate the incident and provide further updates.
