Middlefield, CT (September 6, 2024) – A devastating house fire early Friday morning, September 6, claimed the life of an elementary student from John Lyman Elementary School. The fire occurred around 1 a.m. on Dwight Dr. Where two people were inside the home. One person and a dog escaped, but a child was trapped inside.
Firefighters, including neighbors, responded quickly, but heavy flames and smoke hindered rescue efforts. The child was tragically found dead on the porch. Counselors are being made available for students and staff affected by this tragedy.
Authorities, including the fire marshal’s office and state police, are investigating the cause of the fire and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
