Minneapolis, MN – Fatal Motorcycle Collision at Northbound 35W and Washington

Minneapolis, MN (October 20, 2024) – A tragic traffic collision occurred on the evening of October 18, 2024, at approximately 10:24 p.m. at the intersection of Northbound Interstate 35W and Washington Avenue South. The incident involved a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a Toyota Camry, resulting in a fatality.

Preliminary reports indicate that the Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling northbound on Interstate 35W when a Toyota Camry attempted to merge back onto the interstate from the right shoulder. In a sudden turn of events, the motorcycle lost control and struck the rear of the Camry. Following the impact, the motorcycle was projected toward the left shoulder, while the Camry came to rest on the right shoulder, just west of Washington Avenue South.

Unfortunately, the driver of the motorcycle, 61-year-old Gordon Wayne Zieman from New Brighton, MN, sustained fatal injuries and was later pronounced dead at the Minnetonka Medical Examiner’s office. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The driver of the Toyota Camry, 20-year-old Yelijah Zionluke Daniels from Cottage Grove, MN, did not sustain any injuries and was wearing his seat belt during the incident. Both vehicles were significantly damaged, and the road conditions were reported as dry at the time of the collision.
