Norwich, CT – Serious Crash Involving Pediatric Patient on Taftville/Occum Rd

Norwich, CT (October 5, 2024) – A serious motor vehicle accident occurred early Friday evening, October 4, in the Taftville section of Norwich, involving the entrapment of a pediatric patient. Emergency responders from Taftville Fire were dispatched to the scene of a one-car crash on Taftville/Occum Road (Rt 97).

Upon arrival, emergency units discovered that two patients had managed to self-extract from the vehicle while one individual remained trapped inside. The rescue team worked diligently, and after an 18-minute extrication process, all three patients were transported to Backus Hospital, each in serious condition.

As the situation developed, two of the patients were later upgraded to critical condition and were subsequently transported to Hartford Hospital and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for further treatment. Notably, a small child involved in the accident was flown to the hospital by Life Star for urgent care.
