Phelan, CA – Semi-Truck Collision on Eastbound State Route 138 at I-5 On-Ramp

Phelan, CA (October 2, 2024) – A serious collision involving two semi-trucks occurred Tuesday morning near Cajon Junction in Phelan, resulting in one person being hospitalized. The incident was reported at approximately 6:54 a.m. on eastbound State Route 138, just at the on-ramp to the eastbound Interstate 5, near the Rocket 76 and Shell gas station.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident involved a semi-truck with two trailers hauling gravel that collided with another semi-truck. The impact caused one of the trailers from the big rig to overturn. Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene, where they found one person trapped inside one of the truck tractors. Firefighters worked diligently to free the victim, who was subsequently transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center with minor injuries.

In the aftermath of the collision, both big rigs were towed away from the scene, and all eastbound lanes of State Route 138 were blocked at Cajon Boulevard, causing significant traffic delays. The CHP is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
