According to the San Diego Police Department, a 48-year-old man was driving a black 2016 GMC Sierra truck westbound on Washington Street. As he approached the intersection, he prepared to turn left onto 3rd Avenue while facing a green traffic light. At the same time, a 26-year-old man riding a 2010 Aprilia RSV4 sport motorcycle was also approaching the intersection from the eastbound direction on Washington Street.

Witnesses reported that after a break in the eastbound traffic, the truck made its left turn onto southbound 3rd Avenue. Unfortunately, the motorcyclist, who was reportedly passing vehicles along the right shoulder, entered the intersection simultaneously, leading to a broadside collision with the truck.
