Town of Clinton, NY – Two-Alarm Fire on Clinton Hollow Rd

October 15, 2024

Town of Clinton, NY (October 15, 2024) – A two-alarm fire broke out on Clinton Hollow Road in the Town of Clinton on October 13 at approximately 10:30 p.m., resulting in at least two victims being transported to hospitals in Poughkeepsie. Among the victims was a child who had become trapped on the second floor of the house, which was engulfed in flames when first responders arrived.

As emergency personnel raced to the scene, the Dutchess County 911 dispatcher reported that a child could be heard yelling for their father from upstairs. This urgent information prompted a swift response from the first responders.

A New York State trooper was one of the first to arrive at the scene and immediately rushed into the burning structure in an attempt to rescue the trapped occupants. Shortly thereafter, the trooper called 911 to report that the house was filled with smoke and heavy fire, indicating the severity of the situation.

As additional fire departments arrived, rescue efforts were expedited. Firefighters made their way into the historic house, built in 1840, to locate and assist the trapped individuals. The child was quickly rushed by ambulance to a Poughkeepsie hospital, where a paramedic performed CPR, accompanied by a police unit escorting the ambulance. A second victim was also transported to another Poughkeepsie hospital for medical attention.

As the fire was being extinguished, the Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division was called to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

Melissa Lawlor, Dutchess County Emergency Response deputy coordinator for First Responder Health and Wellness, was present at the scene to assess and provide assistance to the first responders involved in the rescue efforts.

The East Clinton Fire Department received assistance from several agencies, including the Pleasant Valley, Millbrook, Stanford, West Clinton, Roosevelt, and Rhinebeck Fire Departments, as well as the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police.
